Woody and Verda welcome you to

DISTANT LOON

on Kodiak Island, Alaska

From the town of Kodiak you can drive to this private and secluded cabin surrounded by giant mossy Sitka Spruce.

AT YOUR BACK DOOR

The revered Raven will attempt conversation from his pious perch high in the canopy.

Seasonal songbirds will greet you and fox may cross your path as you walk through the forest on a plush carpet of moss.

Be on the lookout for Sitka Black-Tail Deer and Snowshoe Hare that are abundant in this forest.

The magnificent Kodiak Brown Bear lives here; but his shyness towards humans keeps him mostly hidden from view to the casual hiker.

Bald Eagles are commonly spotted soaring, perched and nesting throughout the Kodiak Island region.

In addition to the stands of Spruce, Alder, and Cottonwood the extraordinary flora of this region consists of a rich selection of mosses, ferns, berries, grasses, fungi, and wild flowers.

Take a short walk from the cabin to the mouth of the Roslyn River.

Here you can explore the wonders of the mile-long sandy beach where the rich Alaska marine environment meets land.

Distant Loon is located in Chiniak, 37 miles from the City of Kodiak

and approximately 30 miles from the state airport by way of an unforgettable scenic drive.

Directions:

Head south out of town past the State Airport and continue on the Chiniak Highway which turns to gravel about half-way out. Take your time and enjoy the great scenery and wildlife. You will come to one fork in the road where the sign will direct you to the left for Chiniak. You are now entering God's Country and in a few miles you will pass our little U.S. Post Office and a few houses. You will notice a sign on the left for the Kodiak Island Winery. You are very close now; but you may want to stop and visit with John and taste his delicious berry wines. Distant Loon is next door to the winery. However, there is more than a mile between us. Look on the right for a steep rock-lined driveway and a loon banner in a tree. Go up the driveway and you are home. However, if you see the Road's End Restaurant, the bad news is you've gone too far..... the good news is they serve great food.

The cabin is situated 300 feet from the house of your hosts, Woody and Verda Koning. It is equipped with a private full bathroom, kitchen (range available for guests staying 3+ nights), microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, queen size bed in the loft, living room, TV/VCR, thermostatic heat. Includes continental breakfast.
